So you’re curious about what all goes into getting your license to become a Lash Artist, but you don’t know exactly where to start? Here’s a quick 4 step process that is going to help you decide what type of License and what type of training is going to be best for you.
Know what your state requires of you.
The first step is to get in touch with your state and research what type of license you are required to have to become a Lash Artist. Talk with your State Boards of Cosmetology to know exactly what you need, but most states require that you have an esthetician or cosmetologist license. It is really important to do this step before you pick a training because you want to make sure that the training school is accredited and has the proper training for you to get the specific license that you need for the state you live in.
Decide which lash you want to do.
The great thing about being a Lash Artist is that you don’t have to do everything. You get to pick which Lashes that you want to learn to apply. You don’t have to limit yourself to something specific and you get to make the choices. It is suggested that you pick more than one so that you can offer more than one type of eyelash extensions for your services. Having more than one option will also help you bring in more clients. There are classic extensions, volume lashes, or even mega volume eyelash extensions. So pick some that you would like to learn how to apply.
Pick a lash training program.
It is important for you to find a lash training program that is going to give you the knowledge and tools for you to succeed. There are two options when it comes to training programs: In person or online. There are pros and cons to both of these types, but they are both going to get you the same Lash Artist License. Online training is great if you are anything like I was: busy, always on-the-go, and need to be able to do it at night while the kids are in bed. Online gives you the flexibility to learn on your own time, but keep in mind that there will be missed hands on experience. The in person training programs are on a stricture time table and may require you to take time off from you current job, however, it will allow you to be able to learn hands on and get feedback throughout the course.
