How many times have you heard this in your appointments?

We’ve all had clients come in and say: “My last lash person didn’t tell me I had to do that”, when it comes to aftercare. This client walks in with poor retention problems, and a messy lash line, and maybe even sensitivities or irritation.

So what do you do?

It’s our responsibility as professionals to not just apply lashes and send our clients on their way. One of the most important steps to creating a relationship with the client is to provide precise aftercare instructions to them. It may seem like common sense after working with lashes for so long, but some people really don’t know that they have to clean their lashes, or avoid excess heat or oils!  

Don’t just hand your client an aftercare sheet and send them out the door. Go over the instructions with them. Show them how to brush and cleanse their lashes. Provide them with the tools necessary to maintain their lashes at home!

Once the client walks out the door, maintenance is their responsibility, so make sure they have the knowledge they need to preserve their eyelash extensions the best they can! Many clients think that cleansing their lashes will cause them to fall out faster, when it’s actually the opposite.

The job of eyelashes is to catch dirt, oils and debris, keeping them out of our eyes. That debris quickly builds up on the lash line and can cause serious complications!

Also inform clients that things like opening the oven, or hairdryers can singe and melt their lashes. Let them know that excess sweating, and humidity can affect retention as well. Let them know when it’s safe to get their lashes wet. If you full explain these details to clients, you’re less likely to deal with “difficult fills”.
